Great set design adds to the overall uneasy atmosphere of the film
Brilliant corridor symmetry… Almost makes you wonder whether The Shining took some pointers
The light does keep this image in your head, doesn’t it?
If this doesn’t intrigue you, I don’t know what will
Need I say more?
There’s a sort of sick, twisted beauty to this shot
Phenomenal lighting and set design make this one of the more innovative horror flicks
The bold use of vivid primaries is extremely sickening
Innovative, almost voyeuristic photography
There’s always something unsettling about the use of these distinct colours
One of the prettier shots of the film
Cinematographer: Luciano Tovoli
Director: Dario Argento
Suspiria (1977) is one of my all time favourite horror movies which still manages to scare the life out of me, despite its overall beauty. Tovoli’s and Argento’s brilliant direction, light and cinematography, as well as the unforgettable set design of the ballet school, make this one of the more memorable horror films in history. The combination of these elements creates an atmosphere that is unmatched by modern horror movies. Not to mention that soundtrack by Goblin. Thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
